The art of a song

One of the services that we offer at Creative House, but don’t necessarily promote heavily, is original music. We’ve got two songwriters on staff (we did have three until we lost Bob recently) including myself, and we’ve written jingles, background music for video and commercials, and complete songs for various artists, national, regional and local. The thing is, none of us knows where this stuff comes from. We don’t understand to this day where the songs originate from, we almost feel like conduits where a higher power is sending us the music in our heads and it’s up to us to put them down on paper and record them. Yes, we do get song ideas in the middle of the night, and sometimes run to our studios to record rough parts so we don’t forget. And yes, sometimes we say to ourselves that we’ll remember them in the morning, which of course never happens. And yes, sometimes we hit on something that is very special. It’s an art form to write a song, play an instrument, sing, write lyrics, arrange music, record it and assemble all of it into something cohesive that makes sense and touches a heart or two. The problem is the music industry (in general) is so watered down and different now from what it used to be, that it’s difficult to make a dent for anyone. Whether they are just starting out, or an industry veteran, it’s a tough road for anyone to travel. But we do it because when you tear away all of the layers, it’s art, and that’s what we do as artists. We create art. And we always will, regardless of who hears it or doesn’t.
